For more than a decade, UnionSilic has worked closely with Nuby. What started as a supplier relationship has grown into a partnership built on trust and a shared belief in doing business with integrity. Nuby has always held high standards, not only for product quality but also for the way people in the supply chain are treated. When they asked us to help set up a Worker Committee in our Shenzhen facility, we saw it as more than a compliance step. For us, it was a natural extension of our own values on the factory floor.
The concept of a Worker Committee may sound simple, but it matters deeply. For the people who spend their days molding, trimming, and inspecting silicone baby products, it means there is now a channel where they can elect representatives and know their voices will reach management. In Shenzhen, where factories are often fast-paced and turnover can be high, this kind of structure creates stability. It turns potential tension into dialogue and helps workers feel that this factory is not just another stop, but a place they belong.
There is also a larger context. Around the world, investors, regulators, and consumers expect companies to protect labor rights and give employees a genuine voice. Chinese labor law supports worker committees, and international frameworks from the ILO to the UN reinforce the same principles. For us, what matters is bringing those ideas into daily practice. A policy is only meaningful when it changes the way people experience their workplace.
The process itself was very concrete. We started with Nuby’s toolkit, which included sample ballots and meeting templates. Managers and workers sat together to discuss why this committee matters and to make clear that it is about trust, not division. Candidates put up posters on the notice boards next to production schedules, and on election day, employees voted anonymously with sealed ballot boxes. Several workers described it as feeling almost like a “civic moment” inside the factory.
The committee will soon have five to seven members from different departments, including molding, quality control, and packaging. They will meet regularly with management, document discussions, and follow up on action items. Members will serve limited terms so new perspectives can come in over time. For many of our long-term employees who have shaped silicone pacifiers and feeding products here for years, this is the first time they have had a structured, safe way to be heard.
For UnionSilic, this is about proving that our values are not just slogans. For Nuby, it is confirmation that their supply chain reflects the same principles they stand for—fairness, responsibility, and care for people. And for the industry, where worker committees remain uncommon, it shows that Shenzhen manufacturing can lead not only in speed and innovation but also in respect for people.
We know trust takes time. We will learn along the way, and we are committed to listening and improving. What makes us hopeful is the spirit of openness from our workers and the encouragement from Nuby. Together, we have turned what could have been a formality into something that feels meaningful.
At UnionSilic, protecting labor rights is not a one-off project. It is an ongoing promise. Setting up this Worker Committee in Shenzhen is an important milestone, and we are proud of it. When our people feel respected, the products we send out into the world carry that same spirit of care.
